"Lady Sings the Blues. The best in classic rock was always that which was derived directly from the blues. Cream. Led Zeppelin. Black Sabbath. These bands knew where it was at and they went there. So it is with Jackie Blue.

Formed in Detroit by bassist Tom Libertiny and the since-departed Chip Thomas at the turn of the century, Jackie Blue is neither a person nor a band member. Vocalist Carrie Firth, who joined in 2002 after the departure of both Thomas and then-singer Brent McKay, has her own name, and she likes it very much, thanks.

Having made recent appearances locally at Wild Spirits in NYC and Double D's in Morristown, the Detroit collective are among only a scant few making classic rock true to its heritage. And yeah, Detroit to New Jersey doesn't exactly make them a local band, but they tour, and you have the internet, so it's not like they're inaccessible.

Laid back groves that could open their mouth and swallow you whole are permeated by Ike Turner-esque distortion, all while Firth lays down the cool blues on top. Who could possibly complain about that?"
We're interested in hiring a merchandise person to travel with our band (Jackie Blue) to our shows.

Job description:
Sell CDs, T-shirts, greet our fans and be a friendly "introduction" person between the band and people who attend the show before and after our sets. This is an ideal job for bartenders, waitresses, models, and retail sales people who want to try something new or take a first step into the music industry and earn money.

Requirements:
Someone with an outgoing personality who enjoys interacting with people and is trustworthy. Must be over 21 with a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.

The Future:
We'd consider the right person as a candidate to become our road manager.

Money:
Pay is $2 per item sold (plus 100% of tips). The target would be minimum sales of 20 items per show, so for a 3 hour show (1 hour before we play, 1 hour while we play, and 1 hour after we play) you would make $40 or $13.33 per hour.

We've just been contacted by NBC news and their local affiliate here in Detroit to organize a fund raising concert for the victims of Huricane Katrina. Donations would go directly to the American Red Cross.

Taking this to the next logical step with all of us here on Tribe. Why not expand this to a fund raising tour of independent musicians who are part of Tribe?

We understand that not everyone can travel, so we suggest using the CDBaby "TourBaby" model that we were a part of several years ago:
1) A band or artist in each host city would be in charge of obtaining a date, venue, local lineup, PA (if the venue doesn't have one)
2) Ideally, artists would share a backline show the changeover times are short between sets
3) We'd set up a route for the show (no overlapping dates) and help coordinate information (customizable posters, media contacts, etc)
4) One artists would be the "Tag" from the previous show to the next so that there's continuity from one show to the next.
5) Ideally, the shows would be scheduled on a Friday or Saturday to facilitate travel for the traveling "Tag" artist

We've found that 4 artists is an a good number of acts. Sample event schedule:
8:00pm-8:45pm: Local opening act
9:00pm-9:45pm: Tag artist
10:00pm-10:45pm: Local act
11:00pm-to close: Local headlining act

The show can be at any size venue. The key thing is:
1) We need to start this now
2) This tour needs to last a while because the people in the south are going to need our help for some time.

The Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball is a Sound & Vision Musical that tells the tale of Nick Fudrich, a Detroit River dock worker during the prohibition era. As with the finest fashion collections, several common threads are used to tie together the individual components of this production: Music, fashion and staging inspired by the 1920's. Actors to give the event its grounding. And a bold narrator.

So, I've been running on all eight cylinders.

The "10 Saturdays Tour" of 2005

Here's the basic idea for the tour:

1)	Goals (What's in it for you):
a.	Have the opportunity to expand your fan base to cities that you normally wouldn't travel to (Don't know a booking agent? Can't get a club interested in booking you? Too financially expensive to travel?).
b.	Sell more of your music to people who actually value music.
c.	Team up with like-minded musicians throughout the world that are a part of Tribe.net (There's so much silly competition among musicians that the few people that are teaming up to do shows are starting to do well). In other words, use Tribe.net to create something positive out in the real world.
d.	Work toward making this a profitable event.
e.	First two years: Advertise before and after the show to attract local and national attention. We need a good story ("Tribe.net bands unite throughout the world to bring indy music to your hometown"), lots of pictures, and good follow-up with local media.

2)	We need 10 musician/organizers for a 10-city tour. You don't have to live in a big city to be part of this tour.
a.	Each musician/organizer should be well known in the city and have a conservative draw of 50-100 people.
b.	Musician/organizer should be familiar with the owners/booking agent of a local venue so that they can negotiate a solid deal for their tour stop upfront.
c.	These musician/organizers will be in charge of all local advertising and marketing (including the cost to do so).
d.	We'll coordinate national/international ad information and graphics to give the tour a cohesive look and then send the files (tell us what format you need) so that you can customize them for your market.

3)	Show schedule and lineup:
a.	10 Saturdays (11 June 2005 through 13 August 2005)
b.	Opening act: One band from the previous city (45 minute set)
c.	2nd act: One “full tour” tag musician/band that travels to each of the 10 cities (45 minute set).
d.	3rd act: Optional local band (45 minute set)
e.	Main act: Local musician/organizer (remainder of the night)

4)	Money:
a.	40% of guarantee or door to the musician/organizer and the remainder split evenly between the other 2 or 3 acts
b.	Will this show be profitable? It probably won’t even breakeven in the first year. That’s part of the investment in advertising to get your name out there to folks who don’t know you and helping others to do the same.
c.	When we’ve done this successfully for one or two years, we’ll then have the leverage to attract sponsors to make this a profitable event.

Your thoughts?

Have 50 new people join the Jackie Blue tribe (JackieBlue.tribe.net) and win our CD Complexification Part II. It’s that simple.

Why are we doing this?
Once they’ve joined the Jackie Blue tribe we’re asking people to post their favorite places to hear live music (under the heading “Places to hear music”). Once the contest is over, we’ll put together a database that’s free for members of tribe.net. It’s our way of giving back to the tribe.

The benefits?
1)	Try a new place that’s been recommended in your city.
2)	Know where to go when you’re traveling to another city.

Rules:
1)	Ask your friends from within and outside of tribe.net to join the Jackie Blue tribe.
2)	If you’re not a member yet of the Jackie Blue tribe, you count toward the 50.
3)	When your friends join the Jackie Blue tribe, ask them to send us a message telling us why they joined (Contribute to the “places to hear music” posting) and the name of the person that asked them to join (their “Tribe name”).
4)	We’ll keep score and update the scores weekly.
5)	The contest ends on 29 February 2004
