We own Sonar 5 and have used it since it was just known as Cakewalk. It works well and the user interface is very flexible so that you can configure it to any view that you like.

From a hardware perspective, we use Echo A/D D/A which had an occasional glitch due to their software driver (its been fixed). For glitch free recording your computer needs a lot of RAM (over 1GB) and a fast hard disk.

I am thinking of purchasing Sonar 5 producer software (recording/ studio software)
and I am wondering if anyone out there has it or has used it and if they would tell me if it's worth spending the $600.00 bucks on. I am a serious singer/songwriter, and have recorded with the big studios. It's time to stop paying the big bucks to these guys and build my own. I have a top of the line computer, so I don't think compatabilty will be an issue.

Any and all input would be quite helpful!
